A NOTE FOR FRESHERS:

A NOTE FOR FRESHERS- if you didn’t make a cut in IITs or got a rank in excess of 2700(when most of the good 4 yr courses are done, IIT Roorkee's Civil, aeronautical being the last available better flavor) u may go for another shot, it s worth it. I won’t say it matters for any of the non IIT colleges but these 6-7 top ones deserve another shot, subject to your thinking and ability to strike a chord. If you are genuinely interested in engineering my answer would be definitely yes for some guy who has cleared JEE in first attempt. Others who doubt their real interests need not bother much.

Remember any ok college in India has more than enough opportunities at least for their toppers wrt placement. And you will sooner than later land up with what you deserve.

When you enter a college your AIR becomes a thing of the past, the same way your college becomes nothing more than a mere ticket and an eligibility criterion when you land up with a job. When u make a switch in jobs it’s the last one, u had that matters. In the long run everything balances itself out.

  1. hello!!!!!!!!!
    i read ur article about freshers,iits, nits,NITK.....
and that has crept a few doubts in my mind.....

my VIT rank is 6063(2nd counselling possible)......
ALSO i have scored 301 in BITSAT......
I had math-bio in my school and have literally no idea about coding etc....

firstly, i wud like u 2 tell me or suggest me where 2 go..........
which nits may be offered 2 me and which 2 select from these....
and is my life over as i have not cleared JEE..??.......
(my parents dont advice me 2 drop and give a retry...)

  4. hi
getting straight to the point- it depends on what sort of guidance you took for preparation, I mean if it was Kota or some hot shot place with some good coaching class... like bansal, vidyamandir, or any other for that matter which attracts good number of competition and whether you showed some promise and progress there... then you are in with a chance of making it next year.
It depends on how prepared you were this year, how much more you think you could have galloped given
one more opportunity and preparation time. Board stats hardly matters in this regard.
it all depends on you, you are the one who would take a chance and pay
for consequences or reap benefits. MIND YOU the consequences seams meager if your heart is not where your efforts are.

  5. If you believed you were prepared enough or are disappointed in the results, please don't be; i am telling you with a straight face... results of all the exams show u have performed more or less in the same manner. Its not one bad test or anything.
Secondly when i wrote a note for freshers i made it explicitly clear that its the choice may be only for freshers who have
qualified in JEE and want to pursue engineering with gung-ho zeal, In
your case as i see, you have taken biology, so like me you hardly have
well enough idea what you are getting into, and again like myself you have scored pretty well in board... that gives a fair bit of idea about your tenacity at least. Now with JK as your state, you probably didn't take much coaching or guidance, so you could go for one more strike next year subject to you go to Kota or at least Delhi and enroll yourself with some good coaching institute.

  6. Which NITs are available, well i've little idea about seats and
colleges on offer for JK(the seat matrix), but i am sure there are at least three in our coll, NITK that too in top 3 branches(all general i suppose)...
Electronics and commn. Comps. Mech. all the top notch ones. Assuming the same trend i think more will be available in NIT Trichy and
warrangal... You could go for any top branch in these colleges subject to your interest as i have mentioned in my post, go through it once again if you need to.

  7. AND one more thing
all NITs are not same, there is a very fair amount of standard difference among them as well as the location advantages, south India being preferred. You could go for NIT allahbad or Calicut to round up for top 5 NITs.
If somebody is telling you to join coll and then prepare, well that will be a tough cookie to crack, preparation in coll ain't easy as there are many distractions as well as you have to put some effort in scoring descent enough in high competition envo in coll. In my opinion you should go for some full fledged coaching if you have gone for anything less than a 2 year freshers course during your studies in 11th and
    12th.
2nd counseling for VIT will hardly give you anything as you seem to be some ambitious guy...and anyway you have better scope in AIEEE counseling.

  8. Lastly but most importantly life is definitely not at all about these petty exams, its lot bigger than any of this crap... what i could tell you for sure is to follow your heart, and then put all of your energy to back it. Your parents can guide you little
in this regard... welcome to your life, it starts early in India with
this competition that we face...:-) u have to make some choices, ON YOUR OWN.

i tried my best to answer all, if by mistake i could not cover
something or anything else you want to know, post it in
comments ... ll get back to it.
    good luck...
